We realise that houses are more than just four walls which provide shelter, they are part of an objective, as a cell belongs to an organism so buildings belong to a terrain and an era.
The walls and ceilings have been witnesses to other times and hold memories of other ways of living and seeing life. They are our legacy, with all their richness as well as their shortcomings. The location, the earth, the geographical position, communal history and exposure to the elements are all variables which dictate ways of “doing” and “being”.
We are particularly aware of how that farmhouse, barn or hayloft came into bein., What its original purpose was and how it was created is written holographically on every door jamb, lintel, floorboard and bannister. We respect the process which has evolved over generations and that which begins anew.
